Those who have never experienced a personal relationship with Jesus Christ probably can’t understand what Christians mean when they say, “I am free!”  There are many kinds of freedom that come to us when we know and walk with Jesus on a day by day basis.

First of all, we are free from the power of sin in our lives.  We are instantly forgiven the moment we admit our sin to God, accept that Jesus took the punishment for our sins through His death on the cross, and invite Him to take over our lives. He gives us the power to live for Him, setting us free from the grip of sin on our lives.

Not only are our sins forgiven and forgotten by God at the moment we yield our lives to Jesus, but we are given the free gift of life forever with Him in heaven after our journey here on the earth is finished.  That is freedom from death!

As we walk with God, getting into His Word and praying and trusting Him, we become more and more free spiritually.  We are free to experience Him in our day by day lives.  We can experience freedom from the influence of the negative things that have happened to us in the past.  We can allow Him to free us from bad habits, addictions, negative attitudes, sickness, and so much more.

The closer we grow in our relationship with Him, enjoying His Presence and allowing Him to work in our lives, the more free we become!

The song, “I Am Free,” as sung by Jon Egan and the Desperation Band, expresses the joy that we experience as we find the freedom that Jesus gives us as He changes our lives.
