Taste and See That the Lord is Good

Taste and See That the Lord is Good

Experience this today!

Every Sunday morning my friend Grace Payton sends out a cheery email to friends and family.  Usually it contains a little nugget of spiritual truth to inspire us for the week.  Here is one that she sent recently on a beautiful autumn day.  I think you’ll enjoy a taste of her spiritual insight.

And just in case you aren’t sure what a “Salvationist” is – It’s a member of the Salvation Army church.

Taste and See

Confession time…I am not a ‘spring chicken’ or a kid anymore….but I can remember many childhood times with my Mommie (Wilhelmina) and my Daddy (Walter). My parents were special gifts to my sister, brother and myself…and models to us in every way…we were blessed!

Mommie spent a lot of time in the kitchen, and at the sewing machine, and also ministering as a Salvationist…as a real Servant leader. I can remember standing around in the kitchen with a spoon, to clean out the fudge pan, the cake and cookie batter pan, the icing pans….to ‘take a taste’.

My confession, I am still doing it! Whenever I make something, I have to get the spoon before I pour the water in to rinse! I made a chocolate pie just a few minutes ago, and made sure that all the pudding did not end in the pie crust…so I could have a taste!…I thought of the verse in the Word “O taste and see that the Lord is good!’

Life can give us new experiences every day, even when we seem to be doing the same things over and over again. The Fall of the year in this part of the country is so beautiful…if you like brilliant color, and a cooler breeze, and falling leaves…but the way to enjoy it is to experience it…’take a taste, and get involved in a festival or two’…find a delicious apple to eat, and cider to drink!..and then thank the Good Lord for life itself! Bless you all this day and every day!

Grace and her husband George are retired Majors (rank of officership) in the Salvation Army.  They are still very active in their local Salvation Army corps in Ithaca, NY.
