Have Your Bible Devotions While You Travel

The Bible is the central document of all Christian faiths. As such it needs to play a vital role in the life of every Christian. In today’s busy world it is increasingly more difficult to set aside time for devotional Bible study. This article explores an alternative to Scripture reading that will work for at least some people.

We can’t go very long in a day without being inundated with messages. From the moment our clock radio begins playing a song, pitching some product or reciting the gloomy news, the words come pouring in to our minds. If we pick up a newspaper or sample a morning talk show the grim outlook of much of the world continues to bombard us.

Soon home is left behind and we face a new set of messages. THe billboards grab our eyes and say buy this. The local neighborhood stores tell us they are best with their slogans. Next we find ourselves listening to people. Some are making demands, some are spreading rumors while others are relating all the sordid details of what they did last evening.

With all this filling our minds its easy to become overwhelmed. We can’t stop all the negative words from entering our minds but we can overpower them with good communication.

Bringing the message of God’s Word, the Bible, into our minds will help us focus on the good and positive things again. But when?

Most advisors will say it is best to begin the day with time in God’s Word. Bible reading and prayer will get the day going well but this does not always work. Consider trying this as another option.

Instead of reading, why not listen to the Bible on an audiobook. You can use the audio Bible to reinforce the time you spend reading also. Since audio versions of Scripture can be bought for less than a printed copy you should find it an affordable option. By downloading an audio Bible you can even save on the cost of reproduction and delivery.

Use your car’s cd player, a portable mp3 player, cell phone or personal organizer to listen to the Bible while you travel. It will not only improve your walk with God but also keep the worldly messages out of your thinking.

God’s Word itself speaks on the importance of hearing the message.

Revelation 3:13 – He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Proverbs 23:19 – Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

Psalm 119:11 – Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Understanding the importance the Bible itself places on hearing the word, think for a moment about how you can take advantage of today’s modern technology to improve your relationship with God. Can you listen for ten minutes a day or maybe more? That’s only two or three songs worth of time.

This modern age of technical marvels allows us to magnify our efforts. Devotional bible study has never been easier; unfortunately, the world’s messages get through with just as much ease. Conquer this influence by listening to the Bible being read for you.

Bibles in audio format are available in a number of translations and styles of presentation. You may prefer a simple narration or get a real feeling of the drama with a version with sound effects and a full cast of readers. Another audiobook product available is a series of topical Bible readings ideally suited for devotional listening.
